Growth Habit: Fast-growing woody climbers that can reach lengths of 20 to 30 feet, requiring sturdy structures like a trellis, arbor, or pergola.

Flowers: Creamy-white, fragrant flowers bloom in late spring.

• Dioecious Nature: Most varieties are dioecious, meaning individual plants bear either male or female flowers. You need at least one male plant for every 6 to 8 female plants to ensure successful pollination and fruit production (though a few self-fertile cultivars exist).

• Types: Main types include fuzzy commercial kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa), golden kiwi (Actinidia chinensis), and smooth-skinned hardy kiwiberries.

Care and Cultivation

Sunlight: Requires full sun (4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight daily).

Soil: Prefers rich, fertile, and very well-draining soil to prevent root rot.

Pruning: Needs aggressive annual winter pruning and regular summer tip-pruning to control rapid growth and maximize fruit yields.

Climate: Thrives in temperate zones with a frost-free growing season of at least 200 days, as young shoots are very sensitive to late spring frosts.
